Guides - How to protest a ban |

 No system is perfect, and here at SteamBans we are not as ignorant as to claim that mistakes are never made. We do however think that we have rigid measures and countermeasures installed to diminish the chance of a false ban. Voting discussions, 3 admins needing to agree and the opportunity to call upon the skilled team of demo-consultants are some of the measures that allow us to be proactive and to diminish the chances of a false ban.
Should it happen that a person banned doesn't agree to the fact and would like to dispute the surroundings around the ban, (s)he can fill out the protest ban form and get into a direct dialog with high-ranking admins at SteamBans in order to discuss the ban in the most civil matter to address the issue.
At first the dialog would be concerning why the [banned]think that there is not enough proof to substantiate the banning. In this process the [banned] can request to see what evidence laid the grounds for the judgment, and dispute the statement further.
If the [banned] convinces the admin handling the protest that there might be a chance that the decision initially made was wrong, the admin will call for a re-review of the evidence by 3 admins (not the ones voting on the case the first time) + 1 demo-consultant (semi/pro player). That discussion that takes into account what the first 3 admins discussed when the ban was initially made will lay the ground for the appeal discussion. Once the appeal has been discussed (which will from time to time involve the [banned]) a joined decision will be made. Either to accept the protest, and thereby remove the ban, or to decline the protest and thereby keep the ban.
If the protest is accepted, the ban will be completely deleted from the db, and the person involved will no longer have a shred of doubt hanging over him, he will be 100% cleared of any allegation. If the protest is declined there will be no appeal to that decision and it can then be stated that according to Steambans' opinion there is defiantly a violation of SteamBans' rules against cheating.
Important things to keep in mind when about to protest a ban
A protest can ONLY be made by the person that is banned, not his brother, mother, friend or anyone else.
Be as specific as you can involving your innocence when you initially make the protest to ease thee direction of the discussion.
Be advised that any profanity or badger will result in a termination of the protest and therefore also the appeal. The discussion is meant to be civilized. That goes for BOTH sides.
When there is an active protest on a particular ID, it is in a grey-zone where it will still be enforced on SB servers but it cannot be viewed as truly banned until the protest has been finalized.
The protest is considered confidential until a decision has been made therefore the banned may not quote or paste anything from the discussion until the discussion has been finalized.
SteamBans' decision will not be influenced on how many people that agree/don't agree with the ban, but solely on the discussion and re-review.
The protest decision is to be considered the absolute final decision on the ban/no ban. |
